She was raised by her grandparents, who adopted her at the young age of five, after her mom ran off, and her dad went to go find her. Fifteen years later, they still haven’t come back, and Max would rather think they were dead rather than to think that they were never coming back for her. Her grandparents, Joyce and Richard, raised her well- she’s a smart girl, but so cynical. She’s always got her head in a book, or hating the fact that she’s stuck in this place. She’s always hated this place, even though she can’t really put her finger on the reason why. It’s not that she doesn’t fit in, it’s just.. Well, she doesn’t feel like she really fits in. Even when she was little, Max was always that kid in the class who asked the “pushing the envelope” questions. At every teacher conference, her teachers would always complain that “While she’s a very bright girl, she just asks why too much.” Her grandparents nodded and addressed it with Max. But, just when they thought the problem was over, she’d ask how.  But, even though her cynical sarcasm does attract some, she’s pushed almost everyone away from her that gets even the slightest bit close to her. She doesn’t want anyone to know about her parents- the word around town is that her parents died in a car crash when Max was five. If anyone found out that her parents were alive, but just didn’t want her, she’d be horrified. Max isn’t the kind of girl that wears her heart on her sleeve, and if she was honest, it was because she has too much “baggage”. There are too many things always going on in her life that she doesn’t want to put onto others. Recently, she’s landed a job to help offset her grandfather going into retirement, and to of course, help pay for college and get out of this town.  → No one’s alone… × Victoria Jaxon → Max’s only and truest friend. They’ve been friends since preschool, and Victoria is the only person in Max’s life that knows about her parents and everything else in her life. To Max, Victoria is the only person (her age) that she can truly trust. × Julian Hamm → The person that Max’s grandparents are making her tutor. He’s a stupid jock in her opinion, and he fits the molds of all of the cliches, so she doesn’t give him much time to redeem himself. But, she does love to see him squirm when he gets angry. × Archer Lockhart → Archeris one of the few people Max considers to be intelligent. She enjoys the comical and cynical banter they have whenever they talk. Especially the times when they swap books for the other to read.
